Bavo tower turns blue and yellow for Ukraine

The tower of the Grote or Sint Bavo Church on the Grote Markt is illuminated tonight with the colors of the Ukrainian flag.

The municipality wants to make a statement against the Russian invasion of the country. The tower will be illuminated when the sky starts to get dark since dark and the colors will be displayed until midnight.

Not only the colors of the tower are Ukrainian. The Ukrainian national anthem will be played from the tower every hour for the next three months. This is an initiative of city carillonneur Rien Donkersloot.

When asked, the municipalities of Heemstede and Bloemendaal said they will not make a statement for Ukraine for now.
