This Saturday morning a big fire attacks a monumental building in the old centre of Haarlem. The building is completely in flames.
The Haarlem fire brigade is trying to prevent the fire from spreading to surrounding properties. The inhabitant succeeded in escaping on own forces and has been checked by the ambulance staff, said a fire department spokesman.
The fire in the building at the Kleine Houtstraat was discovered around 7:45 am by a neighbor of the property. Flames spread now out on the front and back of the property. The fire is beating the loft where according to the fire department spokesman there is much combustible material.
The homes adjacent to the property have been evacuated as a precaution. There is also a possibility that the fire spreads to a building across the street, but this was already empty and therefore doesn’t need to be evacuated. Because of the narrow streets in the old town the house was difficult to achieve by the firemen.
There is danger of collapse, this is why a part of the street has been closed for public. Firefighters can not fight the fire from there because it’s too dangerous.
