This year marks the fourth subsequent European Championship Sand Sculptures in Zandvoort aan Zee. The sculptures will remain on show through October.
Between August 15th and 21st, seven ‘carvers’ from different European countries will battled it out for the winner title in the fourth edition of the European Sand Sculptures Championships in Zandvoort.
This year, since it has been 125 years since Vincent van Gogh’s death, the theme of the competition is “Van Gogh and his contemporaries”.
The Dutchman Maxim Gazendam won the European championship sand sculptures 2015.
The 33-year-old artist from Utrecht made the biggest impression on the jury with his 3D sculpture of the bedroom of Vincent van Gogh.
Gazendam also won the audience prize.
The sculptures will remain on show through October. The impressive sand creations can be seen on several of Zandvoort’s squares, both in town and along the boulevard. A few shops will have sculptures in their windows.
