Yesterday morning hundreds of explosives found since December last year in IJmuiden were set off. It involves smaller explosives, especially grenades.
The explosives are from the Second World War, when IJmuiden was under heavy fire. The Germans had occupied the port and were often bombarded by the allies. At that time at least 10 percent of the bombs did not explode.
The harbor of IJmuiden must be bombproof to start the construction of a new sea lock.
