Fire barn at Haarlem primary school

Tonight, Sunday 16 April 2023, a fire broke out in a shed in the schoolyard of primary school De Kring on Parklaan in Haarlem during the night from Saturday to Sunday. All play equipment in the shed was lost.

The fire brigade was called at around 3am. On arrival, it turned out to be a hefty fire. Firefighters managed to extinguish the fire quickly, preventing it from spreading to the adjacent building. The fire released a lot of smoke, which was seen as far away as the ”Amsterdam neighbourhood” (Amsterdamsewijk).

All scooters, bicycles and other play equipment in the shed can be considered lost. The shed itself was also completely burnt out.

How the fire started is not yet clear. Arson is not ruled out. The police have launched an investigation.
