Insects as usual food in the Netherlands?

You heard that right, just like in many other parts of the world where eating insects is a normal part of every day life, insect meat is coming to the Netherlands.

Insect meat has been available in Belgium since last month but still needs to be approved by the Dutch authorities before it becomes available here. According to RTL Nieuws insect meat that will be sold in the Netherlands will not have any insect legs and will look like “normal” meat.

Insect meat is actually quite good for you and is a great source of protein, vitamins, minerals and fiber. The UN is actually hoping that more people worldwide start to eat insect meat due to the food shortage and global warming.

I don’t know about you, but I am interested in trying this! Why not, finally something new in the Dutch supermarket. Who is with me? Will you try insect meat if it becomes available?
