If you’ve ever wanted to take a seat at Masterchef winner Bart van Berkel’s table, you will soon get your chance in the center of Haarlem. The winner of the tv-programme Masterchef will open the doors of his very own restaurant on the 10th of August.
Since winning Masterchef Bart van Berke has worked for and learned from top chefs like Sergio Hermans, Peter Lute and Alain Caron after which he wrote the successful cookbook ‘Ontdek het geheim van de chef’ (Discover the secret of the chef). His wife and he set up a crowdfunding initiative and reached seventy percent of their goal within the two first weeks. Bart had his eye on a stunning location in the 17th century center of Haarlem and signed the papers for it. Lovers of good food and wine can now truly look forward to a surprising, refined and varying Chef’s Menu in the gastronomic heart of North Holland.
The restaurant will serve a set menu, with options ranging from a two-course to a six-course Chef’s Menu. All dishes are inspired by seasonal produce. The Delft blue accents we are told to expect in the interior reveal his love for Dutch culture and ingredients. Bart offers a modern kitchen with international flavours with an emphasis on locally sourced quality products. The name of the restaurant will be revealed shortly, as will be the names of the top chefs cooking during the opening.

And for those interested in working beside Bart, there is good news. For his new restaurant, Bart is looking for a chef de cuisine, and chefs eager to learn and ready to work hard. For front-of-house, Bart is looking for full-time staff with a passion for good food and wine.

Bart (born 1976 in Uden, North Brabant) sold his successful IT-business four years ago in order to focus on his passion: cooking. This was a major career change. He applied to the culinary talent competition Masterchef and – against his own expectations – made it through the qualification rounds and even went on to win the final. Since then he has worked as a chef/entrepreneur in numerous restaurants, several events, and cruise ships. His crowning achievement came in 2015 with the publication in the Benelux of the cookbook ‘Ontdek het geheim van de chef’ (Discover the secret of the chef) in which he collaborated with thirteen top chefs. As icing on the cake, his long-held dream to have his own restaurant will come true in the lively gastronomic center of Haarlem.
