We can sip this summer a brand new liqueur: Licor 43 Orochata. It contains ‘Licor 43 Original’ and is inspired by the refreshing regional specialty, ‘Horchata’ naturally made from almond milk. What you can expect from this unique newcomer? A surprising Mediterranean flavor transporting you to southern Spain. ‘Licor 43 Orochata’ is available from mid-August in the Netherlands.

The Spanish family company ‘Diego Zamora’, who made in the sixties ‘Licor 43 Original’, now brings us a new light, silky liqueur: ‘Licor 43 Orochata.’

Golden secret from southern Spain

Anyone who has been on holiday in Valencia, will recall the little stalls where Horchata is served. This shake-like drink made from tiger nuts, water and sugar is a real summer drink that brings re freshness on a hot day. Almonds are naturally sweet and have a nutty flavor. Yet it is not nuts, but tubers (Cyperus Esculentus) of the plant that grow underground that are used. Horchata is an inseparable part of the southern Spanish culture, making the choice of Horchata inspiration for a new liqueur Licor 43 was inevitable.

The name of the new liqueur is inspired by a beautiful legend; When visiting Valencia, the king of Aragon Jaime I, a glass of Horchata was offered by a young girl. When he asked what it was, she replied, “it’s almond milk” (leche de chufa), to which the king replied: “This is not milk, this is golden, sweet girl!” (Oro = gold; xata = sweet girl) and so named ‘Licor 43 Orochata’ arose.

Light and silky liqueur

‘Licor 43 Orochata’ offers a unique taste experience. This silky liqueur has a vegetable base, making it a light. Also the addition of ‘Licor 43 Original’ spicy, Mediterranean tones adds more to the flavor. Unlike traditional cream liqueurs, which can be experienced as heavy and lobed, Licor 43 is Orochata light and leaves no “layer” on the back of the tongue. This innovative composition Licor 43 brings a whole new beverage in the liqueur category. Because of its light character ‘Licor 43 Orochata’ is an ideal aperitif. Put a bottle of ‘Licor 43 Orochata’ for the ultimate taste experience a few hours in the refrigerator, then shake the bottle and pour it over ice: simple and delicious!

One brand, two expressions

‘Licor 43 Original’ is the most consumed liquor in the Netherlands. Since the family Zamora developed over fifty years ago their famous ‘Licor 43 Original’, they are fully concentrated on perfecting the drink and guarding the family tradition. Now they introduce the first sister: ‘Licor 43 Orochata.’

“Also, Licor 43 Orochata is steeped in Spanish tradition and pride,” said Roderick Verplanken, marketer at Maxxium Netherlands B.V. “Similar to describe the introduction of Original Licor 43 years ago is the unique taste tricky, you have to experience and discover it for yourself. The reactions to the flavor so far are very positive.”

The liqueur is packaged in a nice, pearlescent coated bottle decorated with a mosaic designed by a Spanish artist. From mid-August, ‘Licor 43 Orochata’ is widely available in Dutch liquor stores, wholesalers and restaurants. The recommended price is € 18.99 for a bottle of 0.7L and € 26.99 for a bottle of 1L.
