Comedians

Ram Adithya Arangi – MC

Fresh off a successful run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Ram Adithya Arangi is a rising international talent in the European comedy circuit. His independently produced 1-hour comedy show, “The Local Tourist” has sold out across Amsterdam, London, Paris, and Berlin. Ram’s comedy covers tales of growing up as a young immigrant across 5 countries and his observations about life as a “neighbourhood tourist” in 3 continents. Racism, religion, politics, cricket – his sharp wit and humour derives inspiration from a broad range of topics.

Here’s what audience at Edinburgh Fringe say about Ram’s comedy on the official website:

“Incredibly polished, immediately likeable! Ram dives straight into his storytelling and never lets up. Laughed all the way through”

“His set has a wonderful charm and he has a delightful sense of humour.”

Rushali

“Like New York City’s sewer covers, Rushali was made in India. Currently based in Amsterdam, she experiments with comedy – culture, people, history, and the universe have annoyed and inspired her.”

“Vasu Arora is relatively new to comedy, but he has had prior experience with seeking attention. He used to think he had a radiating personality. Because people often told him that he reminds them of the Northern Lights. It took a couple of clarifications for him to realize that it’s just because his last name is Arora. Other than comedy, he also writes code, which generates more laughs per minute from his colleagues at work than his jokes ever have. Come to see the juxtaposition of an innocent face with a not so innocent mind.”

Kuriakose Vaisian

Kuriakose Vaisian has been doing stand-up for more than five years now, joking about his life, his wife, his family at large, and Jesus Christ. That’s a joke of course; he never makes jokes about his wife. He’s performed at multiple cities across India, alongside some of the biggest names in the Indian comedy scene, such as Kanan Gill, Kenny Sebastian, Naveen Richard and Biswa Kalyan Rath. Kuria has taken part in various comedy competitions including the PayTM Insider Live Mic sessions as well as Comedy Central India’s Sterling Reserve Comedy Project with Varun Thakur, in which he finished second. It’s been three months since he’s started performing in the Netherlands, and while he still gets confused by how public transport works, he’s become a regular on the comedy scene here.

Kuria’s humour is a mix of observational and anecdotal, drawing a lot of inspiration from his own life and the things that happen around him. He’s got an easy, laidback style that makes him relatable and accessible. He performs mostly in English.

Karan Karthik

Karan, an Engineer turned event manager turned psychologist, now turning to stand up comedy. Yes, he’s got major issues, or he’s too stupid to stick to anything. He still posesses the stereotypical qualities of your regular indian guy: he likes spicy food, worked in a call center and slides into DMs. So you may ask why he‘s here today? Because when you work with people for more than 10 years, he claims there is so much content that he‘d be stupid not to fiddle around a hobby as a stand up comedian with it! Therefore, he’s not really a funny guy, he just finds things funny and is hoping to be laughed at more than laughed with. Come watch his run through his journey as a polyamorous -immigrant – engineer – psychologist trying to mask his judgements with comic release.

Vasu Arora

Vasu Arora is relatively new to comedy, but he has had prior experience with seeking attention. Come to see the juxtaposition of an innocent face with a not so innocent mind.

Mohna

Mohna is a relatively new storyteller with an original twist on anecdotal comedy. With just 70-odd Open Mics under her belt, she is now being recognized as “the (older) Indian woman with funny stories” across the Netherlands. And she thinks she’s an inspiration for millennials including her son.

Venue

The Comedy’s venue is the monumental building Badhuis/Bathhouse.

The Badhuis was built in 1903 to a design by the architect S. Roog. This second public bath in Haarlem served as a bathhouse for the citizens of the Leidsebuurt, a working-class neighborhood that developed from 1876 on the western edge of Haarlem. It served until 1979. The Badhuis will now be turned over in a cozy comedy spot.
