Stoomgemaal Halfweg will be open during Mill and Pumping Station Days
HALFWEG – Stoomgemaal Halfweg / Steam pumping station Halfweg will be open to the public during the Mill and Pumping Station Days on Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 May. The oldest and largest working scoop wheel steam pumping station in the world will then be running under steam.
This is a great opportunity to see the pumping station’s 500 hp steam engine in operation, which is 100 years old this year. This will be celebrated with several special activities, made possible by a financial contribution from Zwanenburg-based Foundation for the Neighbourhood.
These include a photo wall with pictures of the construction and installation of the steam engine and the (then two) boilers in 1923, while in the connecting corridor between the boiler house and the engine building there is an exhibition of special, historical objects.
