THINGS TO DO IN HAARLEM THIS OCTOBER
October has arrived and with it comes a host of Autumnal events and activities. Sustainability is the theme of this month, you can learn more about it during Dutch Sustainable Fashion Week and Mugfest 2019. You can also soak up the arts at Popronde Mobile Music festival and Haarlem History Festival. Children can look forward to Museum Night Haarlem and the Halloween procession! Or visit the ‘I am not a tourist’ expat event in Amsterdam. Until Sunday, October 27th: Climb to the light
The extensive restoration of the cathedral is almost complete and it is more beautiful than ever! Until the end of October, you can ‘climb to the light’ and experience the stunning views of Haarlem, at almost 60 meters height via a spectacular bridge from tower to tower.
Friday, October 4th-Sunday, 13th: Dutch Sustainable Fashion Week
Dutch sustainable fashion week offers a one-off fashion event which presents sustainable innovation, collections from both young & established designers. You can also look forward to catwalk shows, festivities, lectures, shopping routes, workshops, exhibitions, award ceremonies, and debates. This festival is completely focused on sustainability and innovative design, a must for the environmentally aware and those who would like to learn a little more about ethical fashion.

Saturday, October 5th: Haarlem History Festival 2019
What can you expect from the Haarlem history festival 2019? Razor-sharp debates, lectures, interviews, and meetings with the best storytellers and historians from at home and abroad.
Historisch Nieuwsblad presents the fifth (lustrum!) Edition of the History Festival: a versatile event for history lovers. Whether you like to listen to prominent speakers, watch historical films or follow a master class in family history writing, the festival has something for everyone. On Saturday, October 5, every room of the Philharmonie is dedicated to history all day long.

Saturday, October 5th: Popronde Haarlem
Popronde is a travelling music festival that goes through 41 cities. A total of 50 acts will play at 21 participating locations in the city center. And on Saturday, October 5th it is Haarlem’s turn! At different locations in the city center, you can visit concerts for free from all kinds of artists. Acts such as Ao. Foxlane, Lorrèn, Eva van Manen and LO-FI LE-VI are just some of the acts you can look forward to. This year the restaurant ‘Popocatepetl’ is also participating and will host the reggae/indie band The Koalaz from 22:45.

Sunday, October 6th: ‘I am not a tourist’ annual Expat Fair for Internationals
On Sunday, October 6th you can find out everything you need to know about expat life in the Netherlands under one roof. The 17th edition of Amsterdam’s renowned ‘I am not a tourist’ Expat Fair will take place at the stunning Beurs van Berlage in the heart of Amsterdam.

Sunday, October 6th: Mugfest
Mugfest is all about sustainable doing. Again this year the Grote Markt will be transformed into a festival site. This is a great opportunity to discover what you can do contribute to a sustainable Haarlem.
The event includes workshops, food & drinks, music, theater, information, and market stalls.

The Haarlem Comedy Factory and DeDakkas present their fifth Comedy on Top of Haarlem, with a new excellent line-up of comedians from all over the Netherlands and abroad set against the Haarlem skyline.

Thursday 17th to Saturday 19th October: In De Wolken Festival
The In De Wolken Festival caters for all parents and parents-to-be! Over 100 shops and brands will present the best products and services for your baby. The festival will also host singer-songwriters and delicious food trucks so there is also time to relax! Workshops and masterclasses are also given and there is an information area where you can ask everything and anything parenthood related!

Saturday, October 19th: Museum Night Kids
After three very successful editions in The Hague, Museum Night Kids comes to Haarlem for the first time on Saturday 19 October.
Eleven Haarlem museums and cultural institutions will open their doors between 5 and 10 pm for a program full of exciting treasure hunts, workshops, and exhibitions with the overarching theme of ‘Fantasy’.
