A University in Haarlem is made possible in the former Dome Prison.
The Haarlem group, Panopticon, have made plans to convert the monumental building into a University- College, which can house 600 students to live and study. Also on the plan is to build new restaurants, studios and rehearsal rooms in the grounds of The Dome. To avoid neighbourhood parking issues, an underground car park is included in the proposed plan.
Originally the plan to turn The Dome into a University was rejected, but after a petition of 100% positive responses, the Mayor of Haarlem is now enthusiastically on board with the idea. The only people left to be convinced are the Haarlem City Council. Meanwhile promoters have two years to work out the plans for The Dome grounds and are looking to seek partnership with other Universities.
