The period between Christmas and New Year can be a hazy, lazy time and it is understandable if you don’t fancy cooking for yourself. After such a hard time for the horeca industry, it can be a good idea to support our favourite restaurants and enjoy a nice meal at home. These days many restaurants in Haarlem offer special menus for pick-up or delivery with special New Year treats.

Food has the power to transport you places and maybe you are craving tasty dishes that transport you to your home over this festive season? If you don’t feel like cooking during winter holidays but you want to enjoy some comfort food that helps you to feel less homesick, you can find many restaurants and cafes in Haarlem where you can order delicious food via takeaway service.

Besides restaurants and cafes, there are different catering businesses and online shops where you can order your favourite celebratory dishes or buy all the goodies that you usually have when you go home for the festive season. Why not treat yourself to some tasty treats before the old year ends and the new one begins?

Here you have a selection with all my favourites, I hope you enjoy it!

Takeaway tasty treats

This new Spanish restaurant offers various dishes. On Sundays they have paella on the menu, there are also takeaway tapas dishes, and for New Year’s Eve there is a special ‘Bodega at Home’ offering for two persons where you get all the ingredients – including tuna, ribs, chorizo, and more – along with instructions for how to prepare the meal.

For tasty culinary delights that give you a New Orleans flavour, you can get takeaway or opt for the special New Year’s Eve Meal Boxes. These boxes can include freshly sliced Wagyu beef, Tomahawks steaks, T-bones and fresh lobster and king crab, and you can complete your meal with oysters, appetisers and desserts.

If you are searching for something sweet to celebrate these holidays, you can find a tasty selection of cakes and cupcakes offered by this tearoom. Now, they also offer savory pies and soups – discover their New Year with pie, sausage roll (meat or vegan) and wine basket here – and you can also order on the website takeaway afternoon tea. Don’t miss their scones, absolutely delicious!

While you can’t visit this eatery on the banks of the Spaarne at the moment, you can still taste the fabulous food at home. You can order via the website a delicious high tea, a special Champagne brunch or any item from the regular menu. If you are planning New Year’s Eve drinks and already know you won’t want to cook the next day, you can now order a New Year’s Brunch Box for collection or delivery on 1 January (see here).

Cozy Kitchen (link)
This catering company – offering a ‘chef-to-table experience’ – focuses on southern-soul food, Haitian/Caribbean cooking and authentic Italian cuisine. Currently available to order (until the end of 28 December) is a special New Year’s Eve menu with different options: lobster, shrimp, ribeye roast and selection of sides and soups. When you pick-up the ingredients, you will receive full instructions about how to assemble the dishes.

Jamón, Jamón (link)
If you like tapas, here you can order a great selection at this delicatessen. They can also help you to choose wines to combine and other Spanish delicatessen like charcuteries, cheeses, sweets and Cavas. Check out the menu online and you can order your tapas or spicy chicken sandwiches in the New Year via email or telephone for pick-up.

Granny Annies Expat Shop (link)
Not a restaurant or cafe but somewhere you can check out in the New Year once it re-opens after the holiday if you have an urge for a taste from home. This website has a great selection of Irish and British food and drinks. I especially like the Irish Breakfast Box to enjoy a special breakfast feast with sausages, black pudding and much more. Free delivery to Haarlem for minimum order of €50.

Please, let us know your favourite restaurants in Haarlem to order food this holiday season.

I wish you a yummy time!
