Schiphol queues:

Schiphol queues: flight cancellations and four hour delays

Queues are building again at Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport after more than 80 flights were cancelled on Monday, September 12th, 2022.

Lines stretched hundreds of metres outside the terminal doors yesterday. Multiple airlines were asked to cancel flights from 4pm onwards to ease stress on the terminal.

In addition to the cancellations around 650 flights were delayed.

Schiphol Airport blamed the chaos on a lack of security staff in the airport. The airport expects more manageable days in the upcoming days, the media reported.

Due to occupancy problems at security, there are long queues of passengers at departure halls 1 and 3. According to trade union FNV, Schiphol security guards are looking for work elsewhere due to the abolition of the summer allowance. According to Joost van Doesburg, FNV campaign manager at Schiphol, for many security guards, the summer allowance was a reason to stay, at least until the end of the allowance. But these people can earn the same elsewhere for less intensive work.
